What a great season!

It finally ended on July 4th after beginning in early September, but what a great season it was.
Our debut in the Wallasey Junior League was definitely a step up from playing in the Chester Junior League. There were some really good teams in the League and we had some really hard games. Nevertheless we held our own despite sometimes having no substitutes and sometimes less players than the opposition.
Arrangements for the season started so tragically in August when Rachel's mum was killed in a car crash, a tremendous shock to us all. Mike had that morning received a text from her arranging to meet up to collect the registration forms. We held a minutes silence in our first game in the League.
The bad weather delayed the start of the season but when we got going we had some excellent games in the Autumn. The comeback from 3-0 down to Manor Bullets to 3-3 was one of the highlights of the season and marked an impressive debut for Elia who started the comeback with a well taken goal.
We thrashed Wirral Rangers in the cup in October. November produced some good games. Just before Christmas we had a fantastic game against Heygarth at Eastham where we were comprehensive winners. The bad weather intervened in January and it was February before we got going again and produced some excellent wins including beating Irby Colts away with only 6 players against their 7.

In March we played fantastically against Wallasey Wanderers at Oxton Park despite losing against the top side in the League and beat Greenleas at home. In April we played some evening games and were superb including beating Ellesmere Port with two Lily goals and Ridgewood Rangers at Waverton. We finished off our home games with a 5-1 thrashing of Delta Rangers with goals from Lily, Emma, Hollie, Emma and Kiera.

We beat Delta Colts in the League at Oxton with Caitlin on superb form.

We progressed well in the Presidents Cup beating, Delta Colts in the semi final in Central Park in Wallasey, before that memorable final against Irby Colts.

That night in Birkenhead in June was fantastic. The girls took time to settle but once Kiera had put us into the lead with a goal straight from the corner, we were always in control. Ellie Riste rang down the left to add a second and Meg popped up to knock in the third. Kiera collected the trophy, a really proud moment for all at AFC Waverton.
The season ended with an excellent performance in the rain at the Vicars Cross tournament where we made it through to the final of the Shield beating Winsford in the quarters and Buckley Town in the semi through a nerve wracking penalty shootout. In the final we could have won, but were undone by a quality individual goal with just two minutes left.

A great season indeed and all the girls can be proud of their achievements individually and as a team.
Lucie went in goal full time in November and really made a difference straight away. She is so brave and kept us in it so often.
Kiera has been inspirational all season and a true leader on and off the field leading the girls through warm up drills. Entirely appropriate that she was captain for the Presidents Cup Final.
Meg and Emma came to us from Vicars Cross and fitted in really well. Meg was absolutely solid at the back and Emma's passion and determination was a joy to behold.

Hollie improved so much during the year and grabbed a man of the match in April and a couple of goals. Well done Hollie!

Lily improved very well and grew in strength. Her inch perfect vision and passing was a real benefit to the team all season and her know how of where to be helped her to be one of the leading goalscorers for the season.
Caitlin now lives in Wiltshire and couldn't make every game but when she could play she was excellent and scored some cracking goals as well as playing superbly in goal in the tournament to help win the penalty shoot out.
Ellie is so strong and never ever stops running. She played many games in defence but was often seen running forward with the ball and popping up to score. Her crunching tackles were in evidence all season.

Finally to Elia who only joined us in September. What a star she has been and how she has improved. She is tricky, reads the game well and has grown in such strength that she will hold her own despite being the youngest in the team. She will shine in the u12s next season.

Thanks to all the parents and grandparents for their support and to David Harker, Simon Mageean, Matt Frost and Graham Frost for all their help.
Sadly the team is now being split up. Ellie, Lily, Emma, Caitlin and Kiera are moving up to the u14s with Lucie and Elia staying with the u12s. Hollie plans to retire and Meg has decided to hang up her boots.

Thank you girls for being a joy to coach. Have a great summer.

Saturday 4 July 2009

We're proud of you

Vicars Cross Tournament

A great individual goal from Manor Bullets was the separation between winning the Shield and losing. We played so well in many of our games en route to the final and came very close to winning before the knock out blow in the final few minutes.
Well done to all the girls who did so well today. There were some very good teams in the u12s and we did AFC Waverton proud. A good end to a great season.

The results were:

Group Stage:

v Chester City girls - drew 1-1 (Keira)
v Heygarth drew 0-0
v Vicars Cross Dynamoes won 1-0 (Lily)
v Halton lost 1-0
v Great Sutton Ladies lost 2-0
v Llewod Llanrug lost 2-0
v Bury drew 0-0

Quarter Final

v Winsford Girls won 2-1 (Kiera, Caitlin)

Semi Final

v Buckley Town Girls drew 0-0 won on penalties (Keira, Lily, Emma scoring)

Final

v Manor Bullets lost 1-0

Well done - Caitlin, Kiera, Hollie, Emma, Ellie, Lily, Elia and our special guest Liz.

Thanks to all players who played in positions that they didn't really want to, and especially to those who volunteered to go in goal and did brilliantly - Ellie, Liz, Hollie, Kiera and Caitlin.

Thanks all the parents, to Vicars Cross Dynamoes for the excellent organisation and to David Harker for coming down to support and bringing some more water supplies.

Quotes of the day:

"Can I be captain against Vicars Cross Dynamoes, please, please, please?"- Emma on her former club

"We have to do this, we just have to do this" - A fired up Emma at the start of extra time in the semi final

" Saturday mornings are not for football" - Hollie revealing her thinking for next season

" I need a burger" - Keira

" Keira's dead" - Emma's little brother

" Azucar, Azucar" Elia teaching Spanish to the girls

" Be back in 10 mins" An optimistic Mike to three girls needing the toilet but who decided to head to the Rugby club rather than the portaloos 15 mins before the next game

" We need a wee" - Most of the girls just before kick off in the Final

"Happy Birthday to you, Happy Birthday to you" - All the girls to Liz who spent her 11th birthday with us

Training on Wednesday 1 July/Girls Festival 4 July UPDATED

The final training session of 2008/09 will take place at Waverton on WEDNESDAY 1 JULY at 5:30 - 6:30. Please be there on time. The training will focus on preparing for the Vicars Cross Girls Festival of Football on Saturday 4 July.

The under 12 tournament is now full and the draw has been made. We wait to see who we have to play but there are some good sides in the u12 group including Wigan. The games will kick off
at 9:30 and all girls will have to meet there at 9.

The confirmed squad is: Kiera, Lily, Elia, Emma, Hollie, Caitlin, and Ellie.

The festival will take place at the Rugby club at Hare Lane. From Littleton go across the A51 and past the Rugby club entrance, over the by pass and into the Rugby training field on the left. Car parking and the matches will all be in this field.

Any parents or friends who wish to take photos or video can do so but will have to complete a request form. Mike has copies which will have to be handed in to the registration tent.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

We need to sort out the registrations for all those girls who want to play for us next season. Details on the thread below, but we need to collect:

Waverton registration form 2009/10 (see front page of main website) and cheque for £75
Two passport photos for 2009/10 Wallasey League registration.

Both of the above should be handed to Mike or Heather by the date of the tournament at the absolute latest.

Arrangements for next season and Vicars Cross tournament

Next Season

We need to complete the registration arrangements for next season asap, definitely by the end of June.

We have entered three teams into the Wallasey League, at u16, u14 and u12 level.

Kiera, Ellie, Lily, Emma, Meg and Caitlin will team up with Cara, Olivia, Ellie M, Nicola, Laura and Amy to form a very strong under 14 side. You all have played for a season with Olivia, Cara and Ellie so you know them well.

Elia and Lucie will stay with the under 12s along with Hollie if she decides to stay for another season. These girls will be joined by a group of new girls who have been recruited from Christleton and Waverton Primary Schools. Lizzie who trained with us in the winter may also join the under 12s.

Mike and Heather will move up to manage the under 14s with Paul Bowman taking over the under 12s. Paul has been managing junior football at Waverton for a while and his
daughter Isobel will also join the u12s.

All of the Wallasey League games will take place on Saturday mornings (and some midweek games in the Autumn and Spring), so there will be no change from what you have all been used to.

David Harker, who many of you will know, will act as co-ordinator for the girls football at the club. Robbie Mills will continue coaching the u16s.

Heather and Mike will be sad to lose Elia, Hollie and Lucie, but we'll see you again in the 2010/11 season when the current u12 team will all be the under 14 side. Get it? We'll still be around of course to offer help and support.

We need to get the registrations sorted. All girls must complete the two processes:

1 Complete an AFC Waverton registration form. This is downloadable and printable from the resources page of this AFC Waverton website. Go the home page and resources is on the menu on the left. The form is the first one on the Resources page. This is the subscription for the 2009/10 season for the club. You will need to print off the form and return to Mike along with a cheque for £75 for the years sub by 30 June. This covers things like FA registration of each player, insurance, training equipment and kit, referee costs etc.

2 Complete a registration form for the Wallasey League. Mike has these and the good news is that this is paid by the club and Mike will complete most of the form for you as last season. You will just need to tell us if contact details, school, medical issues, etc have changed from last season. Also because the girls change so quickly, the League insist on two new passport photos. Please get these done asap.

Mike will be in touch with you to agree how the information will be collected from you, but we need to do all this by 30 June. After that point, we will start recruiting externally for the teams. So we have given our existing girls until the end of the month to get signed up and we have guaranteed them a place in the squad if they complete all of the paperwork by then.

The above applies to Lucie, Holly and Elia too, Mike will sort out your stuff for you.

Any problems, please give Mike a call/text on 07901 552261.

Vicars Cross Tournament - Girls Festival of Football - Saturday July 4

We have entered the team into the Vicars Cross tournament given the encouraging responses on availability.

The squad is:

Kiera, Lily, Ellie, Emma, Elia, Hollie, Caitlin.  We have no subs so get to bed early the night before girls!

We are awaiting details from Vicars Cross, but we understand that they are really looking forward to us being there and the U12 age group is now full. It should be a great day and an excellent way to finish the season.

You will need to reserve all day. The tournament will be held at Chester Rugby Club at Hare Lane. There will be no charge to the girls, the £30 entry fee is being paid by the club.

As soon as we more details, we'll put them here.

Shooting practice needed!

End of season night out

Hope all the girls had a great time out last night at Laser Quest and Pizza Hut at Cheshire Oaks. A good end to a great season.

Mike's red team beat Heather's green team in the first game and then it went the other way in the second game. There was some hand to hand combat going on in there too, but we won't mention any names!

We'll probably be going back there in the new season as everyone enjoyed it.

Monday 8 June 2009

End of season night out this Friday

This Friday is our end of season night out. We are going to Laser Quest at Cheshire Oaks followed by a pizza.

Please confirm your attendance with Mike on 07901552261 and meet at the bowling place at Cheshire Oaks at 6:15 prompt. We should be all finished by 9 to 9:15.

Mike and Heather will be there all evening and so parents don't need to stay.

Please bring two passport photos for registration for next season - further details to follow.

Watch out in this week's Chronicle and Standard for a special report on the brilliant Cup win.

We have entered the Vicars Cross tournament - Saturday July 4th - put it in your diary.

Wednesday 3 June 2009

We won the Cup!

AFC Waverton 3 - Irby Colts 0

A great end to the Wallasey League season ended in our girls taking the Presidents Cup back down the M53 to Waverton after a great display against Irby Colts.

Heather's special message for the girls, sent all the way from Spain, was read out to the girls just before kick off.

A nervous start meant that for the first 15 minutes the girls didn't settle easily with little evidence of the great passing football that the girls have played for much of the season. Once the deadlock had been broken though through a Kiera corner which went straight in, the girls relaxed and were always in control.

Ellie shows her ball control skills and a knowledge of the handball rule

1-0 at half time the girls were told not to panic and keep playing their passing game. This is what happened and Ellie added the second goal running through and slotting the ball home into the far corner and then Meg chose a great time to score her first goal of the season tapping home a low cross from close range.

Meg chooses a great time to score her first goal of the season

Kiera stepped up to collect the President's Cup from Robbie McGlynn of the Wallasey League and the celebrations began.

Thanks to Robbie, Hughie, Karen and all at the Wallasey League for their hard work in organising the evening and to all the supporters who travelled from Waverton.

Well done girls. All of AFC Waverton is proud of you!

Lucie keeps her cool even in the handshaking

Vicars Cross Tournament - Saturday July 4th

Following a discussion with a number of parents, we have entered a team in the u12s section of the Vicars Cross tournament. This will take place on Saturday July 4th and will last most of the day.

Can those girls who haven't yet confirmed availability, please do so.

More details to follow but please put in your diaries for now. It should be a really good day.

Sunday 31 May 2009

Arrangements for President's Cup FInal

The Presidents Cup Final will take place at the Solly Recreation Ground in Birkenhead (Woodchurch) on Wednesday evening.

The ground is right near to Junction 3 of the M53. Parking is at Glenavon FC and people are asked to walk back to the road turn left and walk along for 20 yards to the entrance to the Recreation Ground.

To find the car park, follow the signs to Birkenhead from J3 which will take you under the motorway round the roundabout and up a slipway. Once on the slipway GO SLOW as you will need to turn left through a gate just as the roads merge. Park here and then go back to the road and turn left for 20 yards and turn into the field where the final is. The Challenge Cup game will be played before ours, with our game due to kick off at 7:15.

All players are asked to meet at the field at 6:45. 7 players have confirmed their availability. Caitlin is unavailable and we haven't heard from Hollie. If anybody needs a lift please contact Mike on 07901552261.

The squad is:

Lucie, Lily, Emma, Meg, Ellie, Elia, Kiera.

Kiera will be captain for this game being the oldest and longest serving AFC Waverton player in the u12s.

As posted earlier, full AFC Waverton kit is to be worn including black shorts and black and yellow topped socks. Let Mike know if anybody is missing anything and we'll try to sort you out. Please bring training tops. The warm weather is drying out the pitches and players should ideally bring hard ground football boots (shorter studs) or football trainers in case it is too hard for soft ground boots (longer studs). If anyone is unsure give Mike a call.

Parents, other relatives, friends and supporters are very welcome. Admission will be by a programme which will cost £1.

Get a good night's sleep and eat your tea!

Friday 29 May 2009

Wirral Ladies game off

With only 4 players definitely available we have had to call off our last League game scheduled for this Saturday. The points will be awarded to Wirral Ladies.

Can all girls please confirm their availability for the Presidents Cup Final with Mike on 07901552261 asap or use the poll on the right.

Directions to the Solly Recreation Ground in Woodchurch will be put here soon, but as posted earlier, the car park is right next to junction 3 of the M53.

This is a very important game for us and we would like a full turnout. All girls will be expected to wear full kit including black shorts and Waverton black and yellow topped socks. If any girls are missing any of this kit, please let Mike know as soon as possible as we might be able to supply a spare set. Training tops should also be brought down.

Parents, relatives, friends and supporters are encouraged to come and watch. Admission will be £1 which includes a programme.

All girls are asked to arrive by 6:45. Heather will be away in Spain but has a special message for the girls which will be read out just before the game.

Wednesday 27 May 2009

Last League Games, Cup Finals, Nights Out and Next Season

Thursday game v Irby Colts

With only three players definitely available, and needing to be fair to the opposing team to get themselves organised, we have called off Thursday's game with Irby Colts. The points are likely to be awarded to Irby but the League Committee will decide.

Saturday game v Wirral Ladies.

Our final League game takes place on Saturday at home with a 9:30 kick off, but only if we can get a team out. Can all players please let us know of their availability by Thursday eve. If we can't get enough, the game will be called off and Wirral Ladies will get the points.

Presidents Cup Final v Irby Colts

This is now confirmed for Wednesday 3 June with a kick off of 7:15. All girls are asked to arrive by 6:45. The game will take place at Glenavon FC which is literally right next to M53 junction 3. We went to look at the ground last night and the entrance is easy to miss. Further details to follow. Admission to the ground for parents and supporters will be by a programme which costs £1

Night Out

Now confirmed for the evening of Friday 12 June. We will do an activity (hopefully Laser Quest) followed by a pizza. Their will be a cost, further details to follow.

Next Season

We have entered 3 teams in the Wallasey League for 2009/10, u12s, u14s and u16s. It is a very good league and we feel the girls have really beneifitted from the standard of football. The alternative was to play against 3 or 4 other teams in the Chester League, but we felt that the travelling was worth it.

Heather and Mike will run the u14s (with Simon helping out) , Robbie Mills the u16s and Paul Bowman the u12s.

We need to get all girls registered for both the Wallasey League and AFC Waverton. The forms for the latter are on the home page of this website. We will be in touch with you very soon with more details as we wish to get everything sorted by the end of June.

The calm before the storm

Wirral Hawks 6 - AFC Waverton 1

The Wirral Hawks last game of the season was never in doubt in collecting the points, but this was a real celebration of their title win and both teams enjoyed a good game played out in a friendly atmosphere. With only 5 girls from Waverton, Wirral Hawks lent us three girls Monica, Jess and Elsa and they performed excellently against their team mates.

Ellie lost the toss to go in goal in the first half and did really well but couldn't stop the score reaching 4 by halftime. The Hawks are really strong and some of their finishing was top class. In the second half Caitlin went in goal and the Hawks got another two before a handball in the box presented Waverton with a penalty. Emma stepped up and slotted the ball home in the left hand corner. A couple of minutes later, Ellie was brought down and another penalty was awarded. Ellie took it but hit it wide. Lily and Elia got through the home defence a number of times and were unlucky not to score.

A nice way to end the season for the Hawks but for Waverton the most important game of the season will take place just down the road next Wednesday evening.

Saturday 23 May 2009

Game v Wirral Hawks away - Tuesday/End of season night out

Wirral Hawks have won the League and their last game of the season is against us this Tuesday at Arrowe Park with a 6pm kick off. Wirral Hawks have said that even if we can't get enough players they would still like to play and will lend us some players from their squad just so we can have a game. Emma, Caitlin, Lily, Elia and Ellie are available and poss Hollie. Meg, Lucie and Kiera are away.

UPDATE - DIRECTIONS - TAKE M53 to Junction 3. Turn left (first exit) and go up to roundabout. Follow signs for Arrowe Park Hospital (you will see it in front of you on the left), go past it along Arrowe Park Road. The field is on the left behind the wood. Either enter immediately after the Hospital (I am not sure whether you can get onto the field there with a car) or go up to next junction and turn left into Arrowe Brook Road and then go alongside the field and turn into a car park a little down the road on the left.

For the Sat Navvies, the postcode of Arrowe Park Hospital is CH49 5PE

Can all players who are available please let Mike know on 07901 552261 or use the poll on the right.

Provisionally our night out will be Friday June 12 and the girls have said they'd like to go to Laser Quest in Chester and then for a Pizza. Mike and Heather will go so parents can leave the girls. We'll keep you posted.

Friday 22 May 2009

Who is the leading goalscorer?

Today the AFC Waverton statto can reveal who has scored the most goals so far this season.

Here it is:

Elia 15
Lily 12
Kiera 12
Caitlin 8
Emma 8
Ellie 7
Hollie 2
own goal 1

So Elia is leading so far with 15 goals but Lily and Kiera can catch her if they do well in the Cup Final and any other games this season. The most goals scored in one game was Caitlin away to Delta Colts in the League when she bagged five, followed by Elia who scored four goals in the game against Wirral Rangers back in October.

There are lots of candidates for best goal of the season but that's another debate.

Saturday game v Greenleas cancelled

Tomorrow's game against Greenleas has been called off as we only had one definite player.

On Tuesday at 6pm we have a game against Wirral Hawks away at Arrowe Park, but this looks unlikely as we only have 3 players definitely available.

On Thursday at 6pm we have a game against Irby Colts at Waverton and we only have 3 players available.

These games are looking unlikely, but if players who haven't confirmed their availability can do so, we'll update the webpage.

Tuesday 19 May 2009

President's Cup Final - details

At last night's League meeting we learned that the President's Cup Final against Irby Colts will be held on either Wednesday 3 or Thursday 4 June at The Glen in Birkenhead. The kick off is likely to be 7:15.

This will be a great occasion for the girls section at Waverton and we hope that all the players will be available and that parents, brothers, sisters, grandparents and dogs will be coming along to support us.

We'll let you know more details when we get them.

Thursday 14 May 2009

Tuesday game cancelled

UPDATE SUNDAY EVE- THIS TUESDAY'S GAME HAS BEEN POSTPONED BECAUSE GREENLEAS CELTIC CANNOT GET TO WAVERTON FOR 6 AND THE PARENTS DON'T WANT A LATER KICK OFF BECAUSE THEY WILL GET HOME TOO LATE.

Five star magic

AFC Waverton 5 - Delta Rangers 1

The evening magic continued as Waverton beat Delta Rangers in the same convincing style as they beat their Colts counterparts last Thursday.

Waverton lined up with Lucie in goal, Hollie and Meg at the back, Birthday girl and captain Ellie, Lily and Kiera in the middle and Emma up front. Elia started as sub.

Emma opened the scoring and Ellie grabbed the second in a repeat of her goal last Thursday running and cutting in from the left and firing past the 'keeper. 2-0 at half time although Lucie had to be at her best to keep the clean sheet.

In the second half a great move down the left put Lily away who cut in towards the middle and hit a low shot just inside the left hand side post for the third goal. Hollie (the scream) came on and went up front to replace Emma with instructions to score. She duly obliged hitting one in when the ball came to her inside the box. Cue special Hollie goal celebration. Lucie and Meg swapped positions with Meg taking her turn between the sticks and Lucie giving her legs a run.

Kiera had been threatening to score all night with numerous shots that just went wide but hit one right on target in the final five minutes to claim the fifth goal. The Rangers got one back right at the end for a consolation when a break saw 4 players running against defender Lucie and sub keeper Meg. Though Meg was very brave and got a bang on her head for her troubles, she couldn't stop the Rangers from scoring.

This was another great win for Waverton and they really are playing as a team and producing good football. Bring on that Cup Final!

MOM - Lucie Parkinson, for Delta Rangers - Chloe Rowlands.

Keep posted for news of Saturday

Because of the match this week there will be no training this Wednesday.

Thursday 7 May 2009

Up for the cup

Delta Colts 2 - AFC Waverton 5

A five star comeback at Central Park saw Waverton storm into the final of the President's Cup by beating Delta Colts for the second time in less than a week.

The game kicked off late due to the late arrival of the referee, so it was nearly 7:20 when captain Elia kicked off. As was the case last Saturday, we went down to six players to be fair to the Colts who only had six fit players. Kiera and Emma volunteered to start off on the bench.

For the first 10 minutes it was mainly Waverton with Elia, Hollie and Lily putting pressure on the home goal. After that though a fast break from the Colts put them into the lead as they outnumbered the defence.

Kiera and Emma came on and it was Kiera who got the equaliser when a long range shot decieved the keeper. On a Colts break forward a strong tackle from Ellie injured one of the home players and after the restart it was Ellie herself who stormed forward down the left and then turned towards goal and unleashed an unstoppable shot into the net. Hollie complained that her shin pads were too itchy which at least meant she stopped moaning about being cold!

In the second half Waverton were kicking up hill and into the setting sun. Meg took over from Lucie in goal with Lucie dropping into defence alongside Hollie. A great piece of persistence from Birthday Girl Elia down the right led to her winning the ball, taking it forward and putting in a great low cross which Lily smashed into the back of the net. Keira increased the lead with a low shot. Colts got a goal back and were really determined to stay in the competition but Lily sealed the win for Waverton with a shot from just outside of the box.

Waverton now go into their first ever Cup Final where they will be play Irby Colts.

Team : Lucie, Hollie, Kiera, Lily, Emma, Ellie, Meg, Elia.

MOM for Waverton - Kiera Berry, for Delta Colts - Sophie Harding
Referee: John Williams

Next game - Tuesday 6pm at Waverton v Delta Rangers in the League. No game Saturday.

UPDATE WEDS - NO GAME THIS SAT - NEXT GAME AFTER THIS THURSDAY IS NEXT TUESDAY 12TH AT HOME KO 6PM

Forget the Champions League, the most important Semi Final takes place on Thursday.

The League has given us a game in the Presidents Cup this Thursday evening. This is now a semi-final with only 4 teams left in it.

We will play against Delta Colts again at Oxton Park Wallasey with a 7pm kick off. We have beaten all four teams left in the competition in the League so we have a very realistic chance of winning this cup. The other two teams are Ridgewood and Irby Colts.

This is a really important game for us. Win it and we're in our first ever final!

We realise that it may be difficult for some of the girls to get there on Thursday. Please can everyone telephone or text Mike on 07901 552261 ASAP or use the poll on the right to tell us if you are available. Lifts will be available.

Oxton Park is not in Oxton at all, but in Liscard. The field is on Poulton Road opposite the Rose and Crown pub. The field is small and there is a play area at the back where younger children or substitutes can play on the equipment.Take M53 to end but don't follow the tunnel signs, instead take ramp left on to A5088 signposted 'All Docks'. Follow this road to a roundabout. Turn left onto Poulton Bridge Road and then a little further turn right onto Poulton Road. Sunshine and Sweetcorn

Delta Colts 1 - AFC Waverton 5

After Tuesday's disappointing defeat it was a return to winning ways with a comprehensive display against Delta Colts at a surprisingly sunny Oxton Park.

With only 6 girls available to Delta, we went to 6 too with Lily losing the ballot and starting off on the bench. Straight from the kick off though Waverton were dominant with Caitlin and the energetic Emma going close a number of times. The deadlock was broken after about 10 minutes when great work from Lily on the left side and Caitlin found Elia on the right who unleashed a fantastic shot right high into the far corner of the goal. A candidate for goal of the season definitely and well deserved.

Caitlin grabbed a couple of goals herself before half time including an excellent shot from well out which screamed into the net, but on the break the Colts scored an excellent goal beating the otherwise brilliant Meg standing in for the absent Lucie in goal.

3-1 at half time. In the second half the Waverton girls continued to dominate although the Colts were unlucky not to get another back and were kept out by some fine goalkeeping from Meg.

Continued pressure from Waverton lead to another goal when Hollie shot through the crowded defence to claim her first goal of the season. Very well deserved moment for a player who has improved so much this season.

Ellie's runs forward were a feature of the game and she was very unlucky not to score when she unleashed a brilliant shot from way out which dipped and went the wrong side of the crossbar. Lily too went very close a couple of times as did Caitlin. Eila's knee had been troubling her since the first half but as she came back onto the pitch replacing Hollie she grabbed the fifth goal following a neat flick from Caitlin which left Elia to calmly squeeze the ball between the 'keeper and the post.

Hollie hurt her ankle but its recovery was aided by a bag of frozen sweetcorn which Paul Harrison managed to blag from a nearby shop. Hollie went home clutching her boot and the bag of sweetcorn . Guess what's for tea in the Carter household?

This was another excellent performance from the girls who kept their shape, played as a team and were determined to win. Very well deserved you were brilliant.

Team: Meg, Hollie, Ellie, Caitlin, Elia, Emma, Lily.

Goals - Elia (2), Caitlin (2) Hollie

MOM - Caitlin Brooks for Waverton and Georgina Murphy for the Colts.

There is no game on Tuesday but we'll let you know if training is to take place on Wednesday.

Not fair, not fair, not fair

Irby 3 - AFC Waverton 1

A great performance against a very strong and high flying Irby side saw the girls come away without any points and disappointed. However they more than matched their opponents and the game could have gone either way in the second half when the score was 1-1. The home side made use of subs a luxury we couldn't afford and together with some talented players managed to take advantage of the scoring opportunities.

Keira opened the scoring the first half before Irby equalised and then had a great shot that clipped the post. In the second half the Waverton girls were heading up the slope. All of the girls did really well. Lucie made some fantastic saves in the goal including diving at the feet of an attacker very bravely to thrawt a certain goal. Elia and Lily kept running, Emma ran her socks off despite feeling unwell and Keira's delivery of through passes and crosses was excellent. At the back Hollie (complete with shiny new Predator boots) and Ellie kept out most of the attacks and played excellently together.

Don't be down girls, you have improved so much!

MOM Emma

Thanks to Paul Harrison for stepping in as coach for the first few minutes. We weren't losing when you handed over, which maybe tells us something.

Next game is this Saturday, but we don't yet know if it is home or away. We'll keep you posted!

Game cancelled Sat/Meet for Open Day

The game scheduled for Saturday has been cancelled. All girls are asked to meet at Waverton for 9:30 which is when the u16s are kicking off. Then we will have a training session and meet the girls who are coming down to have a look at the club.

All girls are asked to attend and are asked to wear their Waverton kit and training tops.

Remember you are representing the club tomorrow so please be helpful to the new girls.

Wednesday 22 April 2009

Open Day/possible game on Saturday 25

We have an open day on Saturday morning and all the Waverton girls from u12s, u14s and u16s are asked to attend. We hope to have a number of prospective girls down particularly Y5 and Y6 girls from local primary schools.

We are still waiting to hear from the League regarding the game. We were scheduled to play Irby Colts in the League at home, but the League has arranged cup games now and given us an away fixture at Upton Wirral. We are waiting to hear from the League as to what is happening but the club is not happy to allow the u12s girls to miss this open day given the importance of it and the fact that has been publicised in the local press.

We will update on this

Please note we do have an away game at Irby Colts on Tuesday with a 6pm ko at Pensby. We need to know if girls can make this game. Wendy Parkinson is offering lifts if anybody needs one, but first we need to know if we have a team. So far we only have Kiera and Lucie available so can everyone else pleas tel/text Mike on 07901552261.

Just to reiterate, there will be no midweek training whilst we have programmed League games on a Tuesday. We might train again in May but await the fixtures from the League.

Something in the air tonight

AFC Waverton 2 - Ridgewood Rangers 0

There must be something about the evening air in Waverton that the girls like because tonight's game was like the Ellesmere Port game of two weeks ago where the performance was excellent. The team stuck to its task well and kept its shape.

The first goal came halfway through the first half when Lily smashed home a loose ball in the box and Elia doubled the lead soon afterwards with a fine touch just from the left side. Lucie kept the red shirts out with some fine 'keeping.

In the second half Waverton put pressure on for more goals including having a series of well taken Kiera corners, but the best chance fell to Emma who should have scored following a fine move started by Kiera who passed to Lily on the right then who put in great ball into the box but which Emma just couldn't get enough power on as she arrived at exactly the right time.

So another great win against a good side who beat us at their ground. Great stuff girls keep it up!

MOM - Hollie Carter (YIPPEE!) and Laura Bicket for Ridgewood.

Sunday 19 April 2009

Game v Ridgewood home Tuesday eve

This Tuesday we are at home to Ridgewood with a 6pm kick off.

Game is on with team:

Lucie, Hollie, Meg, Ellie, Lily, Elia, Emma.

Good luck girls!

Heather will be setting up on her own so anybody who is able to help with cones etc please get there for 5:30. Thanks!

PS - WOw the win against Ellesmere Port Ladies a couple of weeks ago is so far defintely the best game of the season according to the poll on the right.

Saturday 18 April 2009

The Borrowers

AFC Waverton 2 - Heygarth 4

With only 4 girls present at kick off, Waverton were always going to up against it! Thankfully Heygarth lent us two girls, Jess and Charlotte so we could have a 6v6 game in the Spring sunshine.

With Hannah leading the line for the visitors, they always looked a threat. Captain Emma was excellent at the back alongside Charlotte and with Lucie's bravery soaked up much of the pressure. Elia and Lily worked tirelessly in midfield with Jess supporting. Elia just gets better each game and is going to be a real star of the u12s next season.

2-0 at HT and then 3-0 to Heygarth, but Waverton came back from a great long range shot from Emma. Then great work by Lily led to a fantastic goal from Elia to give the fightback real hope. Heygarth then got a 4th to seal the win.

We'd have won this game with a full strength side, but credit to Lucie, Lily, Elia and Emma who played their hearts out and who wanted to play despite knowing they were going to be outnumbered. Thanks too to Jess and Charlotte from Heygarth for turning out for us in such great spirit.

MOM - Lily Worden

Next game - Home on Tuesday (21) eve ko 6pm at Waverton. We need to know about player availability to avoid Ridgewood travelling from Pensby if we cannot put out a team.
So far - Lucie, Elia, Emma, Lily. So it is not on unless we have more players.

Friday 17 April 2009

Special Open Day - 25 April

Next Saturday sees a special open morning for the AFC Waverton girls set up. All 3 girls teams will be around, with the u12s and u16s playing games and the u14s training. Chester City's Danny Jones will be on hand to offer coaching to any girls that want to come down and Heather will also be around to talk to any new girls interested in joining the club.

We hope to have a large number of primary school girls down who may be able to play for the u12s next season and the invitation is extended to any girl of any age. If you know of anybody interested in football get them to come down next Saturday morning.
All our u12 girls are asked to stay around after the game against Irby Colts and talk to some of the girls visiting the club. Tell them what you think of the club (and how great the coaches are!).

We have much to be proud of at Waverton in the way in which we have developed our girls structure which is now one of the best in the area. We have the support of Cheshire FA and are working with some local schools to act as a feeder into the club. We have come on so far since 2007 and we can go much further.

Game v Heygarth on Saturday/Games galore

UPDATE THURS - THANKS TO THE GIRLS WHO RESPONDED TO THE TEXTS THAT THEY WANTED TO PLAY. THE GAME IS ON EVEN THOUGH IT IS 5 v 7. GREAT SPIRIT GIRLS AND GOOD LUCK!

Team: Lucie, Hollie, Lily, Elia, Emma

This Saturday we will play Heygarth at home with a 9:30 kick off. Any players who are unavailable please let Mike or Heather know ASAP. It is vital that we know as we cannot play games if we do not have enough players and we would be embarrassed if the opposition travelled from Eastham to find there are only 4 Waverton players and therefore no game.

On Tuesday we play Ridgewood at home with a 6pm kick off, the following Saturday we are at home to Irby Colts (hoping for a 9:30 ko to fit in with the special Girls day at Waverton) and then the League have put us in for an away match at Irby on Tuesday April 28 with a 6:30 kick off. Obviously these commitments will be dependent upon player and coaches availability and some of these look a bit tricky to meet at the moment!

Friday 10 April 2009

Results and tables from Sat 4 April

There were a few games played last Saturday including a win for our rivals Irby Colts.

The table below does not include our victory on Tuesday night. Our goal difference belies our position and shows that we have scored 31 goals this season (2 more on Tues) and conceded 63. This shows that we are not getting hammered, but doing much better than our rivals in the bottom half of the League. It shows where we have lost it has generally been tight and this is reflected in for example our relatively close game against second placed Wallasey Wanderers a couple of weeks ago.

Yours

Tuesday evening game off

We have called off Tuesday's game against Delta because of the uncertainty over being able to put out a team.

We have only 3 definites and with 3 girls away on holiday, the odds of getting even 5 out seem slim. Calling it off now will mean that Delta don't have to make unnecessary arrangements to travel down from the Wirral, it just means we lose the points and are liable for a fine.

No training this week so next match is Saturday 18 April at home.

Tuesday 7 April 2009

Lily double seals the win

AFC Waverton 2 - Ellesmere Port Ladies 1

Carrying on from last week's impressive performance, the team outplayed and defeated neighbours Ellesmere Port Ladies despite being a player down for the whole 50 minutes. It was a totally dominant display from the girls who were very unlucky not to be 3-0 up at half time, but who then had to come behind in the second half with two well struck goals from Lily.

Lining up for the first evening fixture were captain Lucie in the nets, Emma and Facebook addict Hollie at the back, Lily and its my ball Keira in midfield and El nino Elia up front.

Right from the start Waverton put pressure on the Port goal and it was unbelievable how the team could not score all the first half with Elia, Lily and Keira going close time after time. One brilliant move saw keira give Lily the ball and she jinked her way through the whole defence before just seeing her shot miss. Then Elia fed Keira who ran down to the by line and crossed perfectly but Lily's shot hit the post. This was fantastic football, some of the best of the season.

At half time Mike and Heather just told the girls to keep playing like they were and the goals would come. It was the visitors hwo took the lead though on the break when a high ball eluded Hollie and the nippy forward pounced and ran and smashed the ball past Lucie.

Waverton fought back though and more great moves followed. The reward came when Lily got down the right and her shot careered into the net and then a little while later repeated it. Waverton were on top with Elia, Keira and Lily having a great understanding, Hollie and Emma brilliant at the back and Lucie pulling off some world class saves. Brilliant stuff girls, we are proud of you!

MOM - Keira Berry for Waverton, Katie Tideswell for Ellesmere Port.

No game this Saturday but there is a scheduled game for next Tuesday at 6 at home v Delta. Some girls are away including Keira and Ellie.

The situation we know so far is:

Available - Hollie, Lily, Lucie
Not available - Keira, Ellie
Parents not certain - Elia
Not known- Emma, Meg, Caitlin.

We cant play with less than 5 players so if parents can confirm asap then that would be helpful.

Game Tues v Ellesmere Port

Our first Tues evening game of April will take place at Waverton on 7 with 6pm KO. Meet at 5:30 or as soon after as poss.

Only 5 girls confirmed so far and only Hollie unknown. Not looking good!

No more weekday training until further notice as we have games on Tuesdays and anyway it is Easter. Training will take place in the week when there are no matches possibly in May.

Blustery and Blistery - the Wandering stars shine

Wallasey Wanderers 4 - AFC Waverton 1

Waverton put in what was arguably the best all round performance of the season against the top side in the League at a wintry Oxton Park.

Playing without the benefit of subs, the girls stuck to their task admirably right from the kick off keeping their shape and formation throughout the 50 minutes. The conditions were difficult with a strong cold cross wind and a hard bobbling surface but the small pitch suited our passing game very well.

The team started off with Lucie in goal, Hollie and Ellie at the back, Keira in centre of midfield with Emma and Lily alongside and Elia up front. In the second half Elia and Emma switched positions but otherwise the team remained the same.

The team held their own for much of the game and were unlucky not to score before Emma grabbed a late consolation goal after great work by Elia and Lily. Lucie was tremendous between the sticks to keep the goals down but all of the outfield players also were brilliant. One of the Wanderers goals bobbled just before it went in giving Lucie no chance.

Hollie and Keira had great opportunities in the second half but the ball flew just over and wide respectively. Two shorts Ellie was excellent at the back with Hollie alongside her having her best game for the club. Elia was strong and tricky in midfield, Emma (who bravely carried on despite a bang on the head) tenacious and Lily skilful in setting up a number of chances including beating two defenders in the second half and crossing the ball which was nearly knocked in. Keira deserved her MOM with some fantastic touches and was very brave to play on despite having very blistered feet.

MOM - Keira for Waverton, Lauren McGarrity for Wanderers. Ref John Williams.

Next up training on Wednesday at Waverton Playing Field at 5:30. No Match on Saturday April 4 but a home match on Tuesday April 11 6pm kick off. At least two of the girls are away, please can any others who cannot make it contact Mike or Heather ASAP so if we have to cancel we can give due notice.

Results and tables from Saturday

Here are the results and tables from last Saturday. Wirral Hawks beat the second placed and next Saturday's opponents Wallasey Wanderers 7-2. Greenleas stay firmly rooted at the bottom having lost to us and despite our wins we only now have 7 points as the League have taken out all of the points gained against Wirral Rangers as they have now resigned from the League. Fortunately there is no relegation.

Training is this Wednesday at 6, which will be the last indoors. It's been good inside during the Winter but difficult to practise some of the things that we need to train on. This will be easier outside and we will switch to Waverton on the field.

Spring into action

AFC Waverton 6 - Greenleas 2

A glorious Spring morning at Waverton saw the girls return to winning ways with a great performance against Greenleas, with Caitlin Brooks getting 5 goals.

Most of the first half was spent in the visitors half and the home side produced chance after chance. Eventually Caitlin got the goal that had been threatened. The team created more chances with Keira, Lily and Elia all going close. Caitlin added to the tally twice before half time. Lucie was a spectator for most of the first half.

In the second half the performance seemed to dip and Greenleas who were threatening on the break got two goals back but saw the Waverton girls put the ball into the back of the net three more times, two from Caitlin and one from Keira with a long range shot. The first 'keeper for the green hoops came out in the second half and was really skilful in leading the attack

The second half performance was not as good as the first and probably not as good as the last two games against greater numbers, but still impressive in the domination of the encounter.

MOM - Caitlin Brooks for AFC Waverton, Shola Jenkins for Greenleas. Ref Matt Frost.

Match v Greenleas this Saturday/April fixtures - Important

This Saturday sees our first game against Greenleas, when we welcome the Wallasey side down to Waverton. Kick off is 9:30 and all players are asked to meet at 9. Help with setting up the goals and pitch will be appreciated.

Ellie is unavailable but all other players are expected to turn out.

See you there

April fixtures have been released and they are as follows:

Saturday April 4 - No game
Tuesday April 7 - Ellesmere Port home kick off 6pm
Saturday April 11 - No game (Easter Sat)
Tuesday April 14 - Delta Colts home kick off 6pm
Saturday April 18 - Heygarth home kick off 9:30
Tuesday April 21 - Ridgewood Rangers home kick off 6pm
Saturday April 25 - Irby Colts home kick off 11am

The extra games in the evenings are as a result of the huge number of postponements in the winter. We are concerned about our ability to fulfill some of these Tuesday games given the school holidays and coaches availability. Please can parents let Mike or Heather know ASAP if there is a problem in being able to make any of these games. If there is going to be a problem, we'd rather concede the fixture rather than find we only have 4 players the day before. We have a tight squad anyway and we think it will be stretched.

Saturday 14 March 2009

Keep your heads up

Upton 5 - AFC Waverton 1

Once again handicapped by playing with only 6 players against 7 for the whole game, the Waverton girls showed true grit and determination in a great display at Upton. The Upton pitch was large, just what we didn't want with a player down. It would be hard but for the first 15 mins the game was pretty even. Upton took the lead before great pressure from Elia led to the keeper being unsettled and Elia was then able to poke the ball home for the equaliser. Upton scored a great goal when a high shot rebounded off the bar into the top of the net with Lucie powerless.

Another goal was scored before half time. In the second half Waverton did really well with Lily, Elia, Kiera and Ellie all going close, but Upton got two breakaway goals back. Keira suffering with a bad toe took over in goal for the last 10 minutes with Lucie adding her energy to the game, and despite great long kicks from Kiera right into the opposition half, the visitors couldn't get one back. Upton had the benefit of 4 subs, we had a player down and no subs.

There were some excellent performances today and the girls should be proud of their display. Hollie and Ellie were very good at the back, Lily and Kiera ran into the ground in the middle and Elia was very strong and tricky up front.

7 v 7 would have been a great contest and it is important that the girls heads do not stay down if we keep starting off with a player down. It makes it very hard and most teams will not either lend us a player or play with 6. The squad is not big enough and the club needs a couple of new players.

If anybody knows any Y6 or Y7 girls who are interested please let us know. MOM - Kiera Berry for AFC Waverton, Iira Temperal for Upton, Ref Keiran Mills.

'Concentrate on the League now'

AFC Waverton 2 - Irby 6

Waverton crashed out of the Wirral Cup, beaten by a full strength Irby side. 6 v 7 was always going to be hard but for the first 15 mins it was all Waverton with Caitlin, Emma and Ellie going close and Elia and Hollie doing really well.

Irby took the lead then added to it before HT with Lily the stand in keeper powerless to prevent them. Lily made a fantastic save before half time.

In the second half Hollie dropped into goal and the home side went to a 1-3-1 formation with Ellie at the back on her own. This paid off as Waverton got 2 goals back the first through Emma and the second from Caitlin.

This was a really good performance and with equal numbers the score might have been very different. It wasn't Irby's fault we only had 6 players but nonetheless Ridgewood Rangers took a different approach when faced with the same situation recently and that was in the interests of the kids. Enjoyment is the prime reason for playing football, not winning at all costs. Rant over.

Thanks to the parents and players for all their help in putting things away after, it is appreciated.

Thanks also to Hollie and Lily who volunteered to go in goal in Lucie's absence. Great saves as well both of you!

Return home provides great display

AFC Waverton 1 - Wirral Hawks 8

The first home game of 2009 proved to be a excellent one with a great display by Waverton against the top side in the League who had already scored 120 goals this season.

The game started brightly with Waverton dealing with the visitors attacks. Lucie in particular was in fine form between the sticks. Lily had a great chance to put Waverton in the lead but the Hawks got first blood after about 10 minutes. Soon after though the impressive Keira fed a lovely ball through to Elia who spun away from her marker and unleased a great shot into the back of the net. 1-1 and game on.

The stronger Wirral side with the luxury of subs extended their lead to 3-1 by half time, but the home side were more than a match in terms of competitiveness, passing and team work.

The Hawks went further ahead in the second half but again the girls can be really proud of their display against such a good side which included former Liverpool academy players. All players performed well and didn't let their heads go down. Lucie was excellent in the goal, Meg and Ellie defended well, Lily, Keira and the singing Hollie impressive in midfield and Elia up front looked class.

Well done girls!

Next up Greenleas Celtic at home next Saturday ko 9:30.

Hawks fly in on Saturday

The first home game of 2009 will see high flying Wirral Hawks visit Waverton for a 9:30 kick off. The game will take place on the school pitch as the u16s are at home too. All players are asked to meet at 9:00 and any parents who are able to help with setting up the goals and pitch will be welcome.

The u14s will play at 11, so all the Waverton girls will be playing at home on Saturday.

Training as usual at Christleton High School at 6pm on Wednesday.

The coaches for the u12s, u14s and u16s met up this weekend with the club chairman. Amongst the things agreed were:

For next season we will run:

u12s - Y6 and Y7 girls team probably in the Wallasey League
u14s - Y8 and Y9 girls team probably in the Wallasey League
u16s - Y10 and Y11 girls team probably in the Wallasey League

We will have a invitation morning for current Y5 (& possY6) girls from local schools to do a few coaching sessions and watch an u12s or u14s or u16s game. The club has been running after school sessions in schools such as Christleton and Mill View and will invite these girls down to the club. Also all our squads will be there to talk to prospective new players and to help run some coaching for the younger girls. This will take place on a Saturday after Easter and will be followed by some food in the Village Hall.

We will enter some tournaments such as Poynton in June.

Puffed out in Pensby

Ridgewood Rangers 3 - AFC Waverton 0

A rare afternoon kick off for the Waverton girls saw them back up to west Wirral where they were victorious last weekend. The Ridgewood Rangers side were though stronger than Irby Colts and were already well into an organised warm up when the Waverton team bus pulled into Fisher Lane.

Thanks to a great sporting gesture from Steve and the guys at Ridgewood, the home team volunteered to play with only 6 girls so as to provide an equal match with our 6. This was very welcome especially as they had 10 girls down to play.

Hollie called into team HQ on Friday night to warn of her potential absence due to sickness and called again in the morning to confirm her unavailability. Keira and Caitlin were on extended holidays so it was down to six for the second week running.

The Waverton girls lined up with Lucie the Reina in goal, Meg and Ellie the Carragher and Hypia (ok Ellie, Micah Richards!) at the back, Lily and Emma the Gerrard and Alonso in the midfield and Elia in the lone Torres role up front. See you can get away with this kind of thing when the two red devils Heather and Keira are away.

The pitch was big and the early pressure came from the home side. Fortunately the defence and Lucie dealt with the threats. Waverton relied upon breakaways with Elia and Lily both going close. Halfway through the first period a corner came over and was deflected past Lucie who did her best to stretch to keep it out.

Half time and a much needed rest. Elia had aggravated an injury but hobbled on, whilst the positions stayed the same. Good work between Elia, Lily and Emma resulted in a number of good runs at goal and captain Lily hit the post from one of them. Ellie pushed up from the back and made some good deep runs whilst Meg held things together. Lucie kept them out with a number of fine saves but two goals from the Rangers late in the half put the game beyond doubt. The third goal came from a break when Waverton had been pushing up and Lucie was powerless to stop the blue shirts bearing down on her.

Ellie Riste and Elia swapped positions to try to get a goal back and to protect Elia's ankle. With the luxury of subs, the Rangers finished much stronger but Waverton could have easily have nicked a goal back near the end.

Player of the match as voted by Ridgewood - Ellie Riste, and for Ridgewood as voted by Waverton - Molly Brewster.

Once again thanks to Ridgewood coaches and girls for the offer to play 6 v 6. We wish them best of luck for the rest of the season.

The numbers game

Irby Colts 2 - AFC Waverton 3

The second game after the extended Christmas break saw the Waverton team produce an excellent display despite being a player down for all the match. Two goals from Lily who was a constant threat and one from Keira proved to be enough of a cushion to deal with the late challenge from the Colts. This was a good game played in a good fashion.

Meg, Caitlin and Hollie were unavailable. The pitch was wide with long grass which would have sapped the strength from seven pairs of legs, let alone six competing against seven. Yet the visitors were generally on top for all the game displaying some excellent teamwork and organisation to counter the extra player.

The team lined up in 2-2-1 formation with Ellie and Emma at the back, Lily and Keira in midfield and 'la dificul nuna' Elia up front. Waverton had the early chances and then took the lead when a Keira corner from the left was knocked home at close range by Lily.

Chances followed to double the lead including shots from Keira and Elia which went wide. Irby though were always a threat if they could use their number advantage on the break and this is what happended as they broke down the right and with the Waverton defence chasing the home player had a great shot which eluded Lucie's grasp and went into the back of the net.

Just before half time Keira had a great run and shot but it hit the post. Lily Elia and Keira were excellent in their passing and Ellie and Emma took turns to come up and support the attack. This was good stuff.

At half time there were concerns about tiredness, but the girls were reminded to make the ball work, make the most of the breaks and that Irby didn't have any subs so they too would tire. The second goal came again from a Keira corner which Lily hit home. Keira added to the lead with a great shot but Irby came back into it and the striker hit a fantastic shot which Lucie was powerless to stop although she did her best, with the ball flying off her hands and face into the net.

At the other end Waverton had more chances but the final touch was just no right. In the goal, Kristin Michael was very brave diving at the feet of our attackers and deserved her MOM award.

All in all a great display which makes up for last week's disappointment at Manor.

MOM as voted by Irby Colts - Keira Berry.

Poynton Tournament - Sunday June 28

The organiser of the Poynton tournament has sent us an invitation to play in one of the biggest tournaments in the country. We took an u12s side there last year and had a great day. There are some really good sides and last year we played against Blackpool FC girls team for example. Ellie, Lily, and Keira all played last year.

It will take place at Poynton High School which is near Macclesfield. The tournament will be all day and we will play at least 6 short matches in group stages. It will be a real opportunity to compete against some of the best sides in the North West. More details below.

Mike needs to know soon if there is sufficient support from players and parents to play (we have to pay an entry fee in March) and would be grateful if you could let him or Heather know.

Training is this Wed and there is a game on Saturday away at Irby Colts. More details on this website later in the week.
