Saturday's game off. Training instead.February fixtures

Tomorrow's game at home to Delta Rangers has been called off as both pitches have standing water in the centres.

We will train at the King George field at Christleton (behind the Pit) from 10am to 11am instead. We have invited the u14s along as well.

The League have announced the February fixtures and we are away for much of the month. The League has had to put games in for the half term Saturdays because of the backlog. Please let us know asap if any of the girls cannot make any of these games. The fixtures are:

Sat 7 Feb - away at Manor (Oxton Park) 9:30 ko
Sat 14 Feb - away at Irby Colts (Coombe Park) 9:30 ko
Sat 21 Feb - away at Ridgewood Rangers (Ridgewood) 12:30 ko
Sat 28 Feb - home to Wirral Hawks (this team is very very good) 9:30 ko

Tuesday 27 January 2009

Fingers crossed

Training will take place this Wednesday as usual. 6-7 at Christleton High School.

We are at home on Saturday to Delta Rangers with a 9:30 kick off. All girls to meet at Waverton at 9:00. All girls are understood to be available except Caitlin.

We will have a pitch inspection on Friday evening so keep an eye on this website. If we can't play we will train again at the field by the Pit at Christleton unless it is really wet there too.

We have training tops for Holly, Elia and Keira to collect and will bring them down on Wednesday.

URGENT~GAME OFF V IRBY URGENT

Irby have this evening sadly called off tomorrows game because of the pitch being too wet. Training is on as normal on wednesday.Have a nice weekend off and hopefully our game will be on next week.

Wednesday 21 January 2009

Irby game this Saturday, coach for the day, get your tops

Thanks to all the girls who came to training this Wednesday and to all the parents of those that couldn't make it for letting us know.

The Irby game has been confirmed for this Saturday at Irby Primary School, Coombe Road Irby Wirral. All players are asked to meet at 12 noon for a 12:30 kick off. Directions below.

Irby are carrying out a pitch inspection at 4pm on Friday and as rain is forecast, please keep an eye on this website as there is always a possibility of a postponement.

Heather and Mike are both away on Saturday, so we have asked Scott, Meg's Dad to take charge of the side. Scott along with Paul, Emmas Dad, ran the Vicars Cross u11s last season so the team will be in good hands. Not too good we hope or we could be looking at two redundant coaches.

The squad is Lucie, Elia, Ellie, Lily, Meg, Emma, Caitlin, Ellie and Holly. You'll look smart in your new training tops.

Anybody who needs a lift please call Mike on 07901 552261. We will expect lots of texts during Saturday keeping us informed of progress.

Most of the girls have collected their training tops now, just Elia, Keira and Holly left to collect theirs and hand over £30 each. That's a good deal isn't it?

Directions:

The ground is at Irby Primary School and the postcode is CH61 4UR.Take M53 to junction 3, the Woodchurch turn off. Turn left and follow road to end. Turn left onto Arrowe Park Road. At the roundabout turn right onto Thingwall Road and after a mile when you come into Irby take the third turn on the right into Coombe Road. The school is down Coombe Road on the right.A prettier way is go via Neston along the Parkgate Road through Heswall.

Saturday's results, coaches go missing and training tops

Thanks to all the girls who turned out for the training session on Saturday. Better than staying in bed, which is the most popular vote on the poll on the right for what you do on a Saturday morning when we don't have a game.

The training tops have arrived and Lily, Lucie, Meg and Ellie all have them. Can we please have a cheque (to Afc Waverton) for £30 from all other parents? We will bring them down on Wednesday.

Next Saturday we are away at Irby with a 12:30 kick off. The slight problem is that Heather and Mike are both away and cannot be there. We are waiting for the League to confirm if the game can still go ahead in those circumstances as they are strict on having registered coaches present. If it can, we will ask one or more of the parents to be the Capello for the day. No pressure. More details to follow.

Finally and disappointingly our's was the only League game called off on Saturday meaning that we have now played fewer games than any of the u12s sides. Wallasey Wanderers thumped Greenleas 18-0 but Wirral Hawks who won 5-0 at home to Greenleas Celtic remain on top of the league. Our rivals Heygarth United lost but Delta Rangers beat Wirral Rangers.

URGENT - Delta Colts game off - URGENT

It had to happen didn't it? The club has called off tomorrow's games at Waverton as the pitches are not playable and more rain is forecast tonight. So our game against Delta Colts is off.

Given that the girls were looking forward to a kick about, we will run a training session at the field behind the Pit in Christleton from 9:15 to 10:15. It might be muddy but it'll be a good workout!

The training tops have arrived. We will need a cheque from all parents made payable to AFC Waverton for £30 and then we will hand over a nice new training top with the girl's initials on it.

Game v Delta Colts, Training Tops and help

We are playing Delta Colts at home this Saturday. Please keep an eye on this website and on the weather. It'll be good to have a game.

All players are asked to meet at 9:00am for a 9:30 kick off. If anybody is unable to play please let us know. Heather is away so we would appreciate help from parents to set up the pitch, put up the goals and help take them down afterwards. Anybody willing to help please be there by 8:45.

The training tops are on their way according to Queensferry Sports and will be available for us to collect on Friday. We hope to have them picked up by the end of the game on Saturday, but make no promises. If any parent is going near to Queensferry on Friday afternoon, could they let Mike know. They are Prostar Cyclone tops with the players initials on and are £30 each. We will need cheques made payable to AFC Waverton for £30 from each parent. They look very nice and we will look the part when arriving for a game.

See you Saturday.

Training Wed, Game v Delta Colts Saturday and news of a late start on 24 Jan

Training as usual this Weds 6-7. £10 subs still owed from Holly, Emma, and Elia so if we can have that as soon as possible, that would be good.

We have a home game this Sat against Delta Colts. All players are to meet at Waverton at 9:00am ready for a 9:30 kick off.

The weather has warmed up a bit, lets hope it doesn't rain too much before Saturday. All the messages we are getting from the players and parents is that you really really desperately want to have a game. Keep your fingers crossed!

Looking ahead our remaining games for January are away to Irby on 24 January and home to Delta Rangers on 31 January. The home game on 31 January is the usual 9:30 kick off, but the away game at Irby on 24 January is a, wait for it, 12:30 kick off. This is because of pitch allocations at Coombe Road. Please make a note of this as it will mean a later start but will also mean that we are not back in Chester until after 2pm.

URGENT - Irby Colts game POSTPONED - URGENT

Saturday's game against Irby Colts has been postponed this evening as the Coombe Road pitches are frozen. This afternoon they looked potentially playable but the drop in temperature caused them to be unfit and given the early kick off it was decided to postpone the match.

Another postponement is disappointing but not surprising. We had a full turn out likely too.

Heather and Mike considered whether to train instead but the Waverton pitches are unplayable too so we have decided not to try to train on safety grounds.

We will train on Wednesday at the High School 6-7 and hope we can play a game next Saturday.

The orders for the Wet Weather training tops went into Queensferry Sports last week and we'll keep you updated on expected delivery.

Postponements

This season has seen so many postponements compared to last season. Obviously playing on grass instead of astro turf is the major reason for this, but we have also seen games postponed this year because of other reasons.

The Wallasey League called off all last Saturday's games in the girls league because they believed that with the temperatures forecast to drop over Friday night, the pitches were all likely to frozen or very hard on Saturday morning. This decision was taken in the interests of the girls safety as playing on a frozen pitch can be very dangerous and cause injuries. The league made this decision on Friday afternoon.

Most of the other times that games have been called off due to the pitches being unfit are as a result of them being waterlogged. This has happened to us at home and away. For our home matches, the Club chairman will inspect the pitches usually late afternoon on the Friday and make a decison. We then communicate that to the League and to parents/girls via the website and text.

Other reasons that have led to games being called off this season include teams not being able to put out enough players. A minimum of 4 must play and teams cannot ask for a postponement just because they are one or two short. We have had to postpone one of our games this season because we did not have 4 players and we have had one postponed because the opposition could not put out 4 players. In these situations, the team calling the game off loses the points and the other team gets them.

The League has a strict procedure in place leading up the Saturday games. The home team has to ring the away team by the Wednesday night and confirm that the game is on and that both sides know where the game is being played, what time it kicks off, that there is no colour clash and that a referee has been sorted. Sometimes at training on Wednesday evening, we are still waiting for confirmation about games so cannot definitely say where the game is etc. Some teams have more than one ground, others use Council pitches and they might be moved.

With so many games postponed, the backlog of games still to be played before the end of the season is high. We should be playing around 30 games this season plus cup games and so far have only played about 10. The League may extend the season to the end of May and will look to additional play games in midweek after March.

Finally, the pitches at Waverton are taking some stick because of the wet weather this season. This means that the Club has to be cautious so as not to completely ruin the pitches for the rest of the season. We now have so many Waverton teams from u6 to u16 that we just have to make sure that we have some grass left for everyone to play on!
