Poynton Tournament - Sunday June 28

The organiser of the Poynton tournament has sent us an invitation to play in one of the biggest tournaments in the country. We took an u12s side there last year and had a great day. There are some really good sides and last year we played against Blackpool FC girls team for example. Ellie, Lily, and Keira all played last year.

It will take place at Poynton High School which is near Macclesfield. The tournament will be all day and we will play at least 6 short matches in group stages. It will be a real opportunity to compete against some of the best sides in the North West. More details below.

Mike needs to know soon if there is sufficient support from players and parents to play (we have to pay an entry fee in March) and would be grateful if you could let him or Heather know.

Training is this Wed and there is a game on Saturday away at Irby Colts. More details on this website later in the week.

RULES

1. The Tournament shall be known as ‘The Poynton Soccer Sixes’ and will be played in accordance with the rules of The Football Association and the laws of the game. 2. Each Team will consist of a squad of 9 players. The team will field 6 players with a maximum of 3 rolling substitutes. Any team using any player other than the 9 players registered will be disqualified. 3. Players may only play for one team in their age group. 4. Players registered in 2008-9 with an Academy or School of Excellence may not take part, whether they have been released since, or not. Any team found breaking this rule will be immediately removed from the competition. 5. All players must be under the relevant age group on 1st September 2008 and may not be younger than two years below the age group. Age groups for the 2008-2009 Season will apply to this tournament. 6. Substitutes will be allowed to roll on & off with the referees’ permission. 7. All group matches and Quarter-Final matches will last 7 minutes one way. Semi-Final and Final matches will last 10 minutes – 5 minutes each way. Subject to numbers. 8. Small-sided & Mini-Soccer Rules will apply, including (with the exception of those listed in Rules 15-18): 9. No offside rule. 10. The ball may travel overhead height. 11. The ball shall be returned to play by means of a throw-in, corner-kick or as Rule 16 for the goalkeeper. 12. Play will be restarted after a goal by means of a drop ball. 13. All free kicks are direct.
13. All fouls committed by the defending team in the penalty area will result in a penalty being awarded.
14. All players are allowed in the penalty area at both ends of the pitch.
15. Defending players must stand 2 metres from a free kick.
16. The goalkeeper may only return the ball to play by throwing the ball from the penalty area (Under 8’s may return the ball by kicking it from their hands). If a goalkeeper intentionally uses his/her feet to kick the ball (other than to make a save) a penalty will be awarded.
17. The backpass rule is allowed. However, to ensure it is not used to the detriment of the game the player to whom the goalkeeper gives the ball may not return the ball to the goalkeeper directly. If the goalkeeper picks the ball up in this situation a free-kick will be awarded 2 metres outside the edge of the penalty area nearest to where the goalkeeper handled the ball.
18. The goalkeeper must remain within the penalty area at all times. If the goalkeeper intentionally leaves the penalty area a penalty will be awarded.
19. Any team failing to fulfil a fixture will forfeit the fixture 2-0.
20. Group matches will result in 3 points for a win, 2 points for a score draw and 1 point for a no score draw. Should teams be level on points, goal difference will determine position, if the teams are still level then goals scored will determine which team progresses. If teams are still level the result between the two teams will decide which team progresses. If teams are still level 5 penalties will be taken by each team in accordance with rule 16.
21. The 8 best placed teams will progress to a Quarter-Final, Semi-Final and Final.
22. If penalties are required to determine the result of group position or a knock-out match five penalties will be taken alternately by each team with only those players who remained on the pitch able to take part. If the result remains level sudden death penalties will apply with only those players who remained on the pitch able to take part. With respect to penalty shoot-outs to determine group position five players must be nominated and then all other squad members must take part if required.
23. Referees will issue yellow cards and red cards under normal FA Rules for infringements. A Yellow card will result in a 2 minute sin-bin, or until the end of the match, whichever is the shorter. There will be no further action taken for a yellow card. A Red card will result in the player being sent from the field of play and banned from the remainder of the Tournament. This will also be reported to the FA.
24. All players must be registered with the Tournament Organisers before 9.45am.
25. The Referee’s decision is final and no complaints with regard to such decisions will be heard.
26. No refunds will be issued following entry to the Tournament.
