Happy Easter

Training will take place this coming Saturday for those girls who are not away on holiday and who can make it. The training will be at Christleton Primary School from 10 to 11.

Numbers have been down at training recently and we really do need to be training together if we are to be successful. There will also be a training session on Wednesday April 2 at Christleton Primary School from 5:30 to 6:30

Please let Mike know by text or email if you are unable to make these sessions. We have three apologies so far.

The next League match is against Princes Villa United Ladies at Upton on April 5, but we have asked the League for a postponement because three of our girls are on international duty. Well they are on holiday really. The League are usually very reluctant to postpone games because of fixture congestion and any news that we have will be posted on this website.

Enjoy the rest of your Easter and remember if you can't eat all of your Easter eggs, bring them along to training and Heather and Mike will help you.

Just an off day

AFC Waverton 0 - Vicars Cross Dynamoes 6

Previous games against the Dynamoes have always been very close. This one certainly wasn't. Vicars Cross were on fine form, we weren't. Ah well, the form of recent weeks has shown what the Waverton girls can achieve and they shouldn't be too down hearted about this result. D'arcy Tuite deserves a special mention because her bravery in the Waverton goal kept the score down to single figures.

Training will take place this Wednesday at and then we shall have a break for Easter. The programme for Easter is as follows:
Wed 19 March - Training at Christleton Primary School from 5:30pm to 6:30pm
Saturday 29 March - Training at Christleton Primary School from 1oam to 11am (provisional - please check update on this website)
Wed 2 April - Training at Christleton Primary School from 5:30pm to 6:30pm
Saturday 5 April - League match at Upton

Vicars Cross game this Sat/Toffees v Blues

Good start to the midweek training sessions with the light just holding to enable the girls to have a hour's workout at Christleton Primary School on Wednesday. Same again next week, meet at 5:30.

This saturday we are playing Vicars Cross at Upton. Please meet there at 10:30. If any of the players cannot make it, please give me a call on 07901 552261 or by email.

Following our failed attempt to watch Heather play in November, we would like to organise a trip before the end of the season. It has been suggested that we go and see Birmingham take on Everton Ladies on Sunday April 20th. This will be playd at Marine FC's ground at Crosby with a 2pm kick off. We'll probably take cars.

Late late effort denies Waverton victory

AFC Waverton 2- Malpas 2

A goal in the final seconds of added time denied Waverton all the points in this close and full bloodied game.

Waverton took the lead in the 5th minute when Keira Berry turned and shot from just outside the box. Malpas fought back well and equalised through a stunning long range shot. Darcy Tuite was injured in attempting to save the goal and needed treatment.

The yellow shirted girls threatened to regain the lead and did so just before the interval. Lily Worden pursued a ball near to the corner flag and managed to squeeze a cross over where it was meant by Ellie Riste, who shot home from close range.

The second half saw Waverton unable to convert a series of chances to increase the lead but at the other end Malpas peppered Darcy Tuite's goal with a number of good shots as the Waverton girls, with no substitutes to bring on, tired.

Darcy Tuite was forced into making a first class save to keep her side in the lead, but well into added time and with the referee ready to put his whistle to his mouth, she was unable to stop the final shot of the game.

Despite conceding in the final seconds, Waverton played some really good football and there were excellent performances from a number of players. There were a number of individual battles going on across the pitch and the Waverton girls applied themselves very well. Rachel Higham stuck excellently to the task of marking Malpas' best player and Darcy Tuite, Ellie Riste, Lily Worden and Keira Berry all did well to carry on after taking knocks.

Team (2.3.1):

Darcy Tuite

Cara Grimes Ellie Mageean

Rachel Higham Keira Berry Lily Worden

Ellie Riste

Hope your arm is better soon Gabby and we hope to see back playing for us soon.

Mid week training starts this Wednesday at Christleton Primary School from 5:30 to 6:30. Let's hope it is not a dull day!

Next Saturday we are back to Upton for a league game. Meet at 10:30. If any players cannot make it, please let me know asap.

League game v Malpas this Sat (8 March)

Thanks to all the girls who came to the training session last Saturday.

Unfortunately the 5 minute each way game with the younger boys at the end of the session was marred by an unamed adult donning gloves and taking over in the boy's goal. This had a bearing on the result of the game. That's what the girls told me to say anyway.

Back to league action this Saturday (8 March) when we take on Malpas at Upton. Please meet there at 10:30. If any of the players are unable to make it, please let me know asap - 07901 552261.

Mid week training will start on Wednesday 11 March 5:30 pm-6:30pm at Christleton Primary School.
