Waverton 1 Malpas 1

Not a managerial brolly in sight despite the threat of rain from the grey Upton skies. At least the coaches jobs would be safe after this performance.

The return match against Malpas was as close as the first one and once again the points were shared.

The first half saw some great football played with Katie Pulford (well marshalled by Gabby Tuite) and Rachel Higham showing how far they have come on this season. Darcy Tuite made a fantastic save halfway through the first period to keep out Malpas. At the other end, the lone striker Keira Berry was putting in a great effort to put Waverton into the lead.

Going into the break, the score was goaless. Lily Worden, Ellie Riste and Olivia Rhodes came on at the start of the second period and the girls kept up the pressure on Malpas. It was though the red shirted girls who took the lead from close range. Waverton fought back and Lily Worden set up Olivia Rhodes in front of goal. Olivia's effort just went the wrong side of the post, but minutes later she made no mistake from much further out, her shot sneaking in at the left hand post. Cue the latest goal celebration, 'the magician's hands' ala Nicolas Anelka.

There was nothing much between the sides for the rest of the game. Darcy Tuite made another excellent save palming a difficult shot over her bar, whilst at the other end, a Keira Berry looping shot was just tipped over too.

All in all a great game and a performance to give the girls confidence as they go into the final two matches of the first part of this season.

Quote of the match: 'I am sorry I can't take your money as it might fall out of my pocket' - the referee's response to being offered his fee before the game. Anyway you should have seen the look he gave Heather when she dared to suggest it was a Waverton throw midway through the first half!

Latest news on the Birmingham trip on 2 December is that we now have a very good turnout with most of the U14s coming along. Therefore we will be confirming the coach although we might ask for very small additional charge to break even.
Next game is Saturday 1 December at Upton against Princes Villa. Meet at 10:30
