Training this Weds 15 Oct/Cup game on Saturday

Wasn't it great to see 3 AFC Waverton girls teams all playing on the field on Saturday morning?

Training as usual this Wednesday evening. 5:30 Christleton Primary School. This is the last but one of the weekday outdoor sessions and we'll be making the most of it.

We are away to Wirral Rangers on Saturday, at Acre Lane Bromborough kick off 9:30. This is a Cup game, postponed from September. Wirral Rangers have struggled to put out a team earlier in the season, so we are awaiting confirmation. Watch this space for news and directions.

We hope to take a picture of the whole squad this Saturday to go onto our home page, as that should be the first time that all the girls will have been together for a match.

The League will release the November fixtures on October 20 and as soon as we know what they are, we'll put them up on the website. We hope they don't give us a game for 1 November as it is half term weekend and some of you may be away.

We'll be confirming the orders for the Wet Weather Tops this Wed and Sat. You'll soon be needing them.

Never write off a Waverton side - AFC Waverton 3 - Manor Bullets 3

The second game of the season brought the first point and how well deserved it was. The visitors took the lead when Lily Worden in the home goal made a great save but was powerless to stop the follow up shot.

The Bullets then scored two great goals from long range efforts which left the Waverton 'keeper with no chance of saving them. Lily made another excellent save to keep the score down.

3--0 game over? No chance, the Waverton girls showed spirit and determination and great work through the middle saw Elia Williams - Serrano through on goal. The 'keeper saved the shot, but as the defence crashed into her Elia pounced on the loose ball to score her first ever goal for a club side.

The goal gave the girls confidence and the half time team talk was very positive. Ellie Riste took over in goal with Lily going into the left midfield berth and although under pressure for periods, the home side created a number of chances. Emma Harrison was put through on a one on one with the 'keeper and was unlucky to drag her shot just to the left of the goal whilst Keira Berry also went close twice, once with a free kick which just sailed over the bar.

Megan Mckie ran with the ball all the way through from the back and was unlucky not to take the ball all the way into the Bullets net. Emma though did make up for her earlier miss when she hit the ball in from close range and then ran off to celebrate her first goal for the club.

The next goal would prove crucial and it came from the home side when Lily Worden played a delighful ball to Keira and the captain struck a fantastic shot into the roof of the net. Absolutely fantastic stuff and the celebrations of the team showed just what it meant to get level from being dead and buried in the first 20 minutes.

The Bullets, with their bigger squad, pushed for the winner in the dying minutes, but with Lucy and Holly doing a sterling job defending down on the right side and Ellie Riste in goal clearing her lines, the home side held on. A great game, a great performance and something to really build on.

Player of the match as chosen by Manor Bullets - Elia Williams -Serrano. - a fantastic and well deserved achievement for the youngest member of the team making only her second appearance in club football.

Manor Bullets on Saturday 11

Manor Bullets from Wallasey visit Waverton for our second league game of the season this Saturday. The game will kick off at 9:30 and all players are asked to meet at Waverton at 9:00. The u16s play on the same pitch as us straight afterwards so we have to start promptly (and because Mike is dashing off to Wembley).

The match will be on the school field. The club have said that the car park is likely to get very busy this Saturday because of a number of matches being played and have urged car sharing if travelling from outside of the village.

A report on the game will be posted on this website over the weekend.

See you there!

Training this Wed/Match at home on Sat 11

Thanks to all the girls who came to training on Saturday. We're still trying to work who the goalkeeper and coach were on the field with us, but it looked a pretty serious session. Ours was a good workout and the small sided game allowed for plenty of one on one practice. There was some great finishing. Training will take place this Wednesday evening at 5:30 at Christleton Primary School.

Our next match is on Saturday (11 October) and is against Manor. The game will kick off at 9:30 and all players are asked to report at 9:00. The game will be played on the Waverton School Field rather than the Queen Field. Park in the same place.

Why does it always rain on me?

UPDATE - SATURDAY'S GAME AWAY AT DELTA COLTS HAS BEEN POSTPONED BECAUSE OXTON PARK IS WATERLOGGED.

TRAINING WILL TAKE PLACE AT THE KING GEORGE FIELD (BEHIND THE PIT) IN CHRISTLETON FROM 10 -11 INSTEAD. SEE YOU THERE!

We hope to have an article in the Chester Chronicle and Chester Standard this week about the girls set up. We have three competitive girls teams now, which makes us one of the best clubs for girls football in the Chester area. Coupled with excellent coaches (!) and pitches, AFC Waverton is the place to be.

We had a meeting with the Football Development Officer for Chester last week and we will be developing links with local primary schools and Christleton High School. This will involve coaches from our club going into primary schools such as Christleton, Waverton, and Barrow and running some coaching sessions with the hope of drawing girls into a club environment. More details to follow.
