Close encounters of the rainy kind

The cold and wet conditions inspired the Waverton girls who played some fantastic football in this game against the League leaders. Indeed, the Vicars Cross Dynamos manager thought that Waverton shouldn't have lost this game as our girls played such great football and were dominant for much of the 50 minutes.

Waverton started brightly and took a lead within the first 10 minutes when Ellie Riste running in from the left, slid the ball into the corner of the net. Not long after, Keira Berry, who was in sparkling form all morning, scored with a great shot from the right.

The League leaders though came back into the game and took advantage of the Waverton defence's failure to clear to get a goal back and then an equaliser. Katie Pulford made a fantastic block to deny a certain goal. In added time at the end of the first half, the Dynamos won a free kick on the edge of the box. The resulting kick was hit high and perfectly beyond Darcy's reach into the top corner.

In the second half Waverton piled on the pressure but despite numerous efforts could just not get the ball into the net. Olivia Rhodes and Keira Berry both shot just wide. Lily Worden and Keira Berry combined well to create a number of chances down the right. At the other end, Rachel Higham and Gabby Tuite swept up most of the threats and Darcy was outstanding once again. However, the Dynamos extended their lead following a break away as Waverton went for the equaliser, with a low hard shot from the right giving Darcy little chance .

Another great performance from the League's best footballing side!

A training session will be held at Upton next Saturday morning. Meet at 10:15 for a 10:30 start but please keep an eye on this website for any updates on the arrangements. There will be a small charge to cover the cost of hiring the pitch but most parents have said that they are happy to pay this. At least the weather won't stop us training on the astroturf.

Have a good weekend girls! Get well soon Heather.
