Change of kick off time for Saturday/Wow Heather!

The kick off time of our match against Princes Villa on Saturday has been brought forward to 10:00 because of difficulties with the availability of the Upton pitch. Please can all players therefore meet at Upton at 9:30.

If this causes a problem for any players (and for example you need a lift), please give me a call on 07901 552261 or email.

Our own Heather has been in star form for Birmingham City, scoring both goals in the Blues away win at Fulham in the FA Cup last Sunday. Heather says they were both flukes but the Blues website describes the first as 'a cracking dipping volley' and the second one as 'a deft flick at the near post'. So why does she keep hitting the ball over the fence on a Saturday morning?

Anyway Heather is now top scorer for Birmingham who have been given an easy (!) draw away at Arsenal (Faye White, Rachel Yankey and co) in the quarter final which will take place on Sunday 10 February.

See you all early on Saturday morning!

Olivia's double strike ensures a share of the points

AFC Waverton 2 - Vicars Cross Dynamoes 2

Back to competitive action with a good close game against Vicars Cross Dynamoes at a windy Upton.

For the first ten minutes the game was fairly even, but then Vicars Cross took the lead. Darcy made some good saves to keep the score down to one. In the second period of the first half though Waverton were more settled and played some great football. Lily and Keira both went close to equalising. Lily had a great long looping shot from the right just miss going in to the top corner whilst Keira shot just past the wrong side of the post.

In the second half the Waverton girls were matching their opponents and it was no surprise when the breakthrough came. Ellie Mageean fed a lovely long ball through to Olivia who ran forwards and cooly slid the ball past the Dynamoes 'keeper. Cue trademark goal celebration number 2.

Vicars Cross are too good a side to let their opponents back into a game easily and they restored their lead a little later when a tricky shot deceived Darcy in goal. The Waverton girls didn't give up and pressure, including a succession of Gabby throws and Keira corners, paid off late on when Olivia grabbed her second goal from close range following great work from the midfield. Cue trademark goal celebration number 6.

Points shared and a great game to start the 2008 campaign in front of the watching League Secretary.

Team:

Darcy
Gabby
Cara (sub Lily 45 mins)
Ellie Riste (sub Ellie Mageean HT)
Lily (sub Ellie Riste 38 mins)

Olivia

Goals : Olivia 2

Have a good Christmas break.

Saturday morning (15 Dec) saw the final get together before the Christmas break. Thanks to all the girls who came to the training session.

If any of the girls did not pick up a copy of the programme from the postponed Birmingham City v Bristol Academy game, just ask Heather and she'll give you a copy. There's an excellent photo of our Waverton team in the programme.

This Tuesday (18 Dec) the League is holding a meeting to discuss the arrangements for the girls league for the remainder of the season. We shall be represented at the meeting and will keep you informed of what has been agreed and what the new fixtures are. Keep an eye on this website.

We will be putting in an order for the AFC Waverton winter training tops in January. For those girls who do not currently have them, we would like to know whether you would like us to order one for you. There will be a charge unfortunately. We'll be giving out details and taking orders when we return after the Christmas break.

Finally Heather and Mike wish all the girls and their families a very Merry Christmas and hope that Santa brings you some football related presents.
